Protect our Natural Resources

We value and respect our environment by maintaining our natural resources. For example:

Protecting our lands and waters

Our connection to the Mississippi River sets us apart. Sustainable riverfront development, such as prairie restorations, pollinator-friendly public gardens, and new outdoor dining opportunities will promote the Mississippi and its benefits to the entire community.

Expanding our network of trails

Connecting the Soo Line Trail to Camp Ripley through Little Falls has been a longstanding goal of the Friends of Camp Ripley Veterans’ State Trail. Increased access to trails will not only encourage healthy recreational activities; it will also bring in additional revenue from hikers and bikers from around the state. You can access the DNR’s plan for the trail here.

Promoting local food systems

Our farms and gardens carry on Morrison County’s rich agricultural traditions. Building partnerships with farmers and gardeners, working with local schools, and promoting educational opportunities for youth interested in agriculture will help carry on these traditions into the new millennium.
